MIDDLESCHOOL SEVENTH

Seventh Grade

Seventh grade marks the transition into middle school. Subjects are more complex, homework becomes longer, and students are faced with new challenges and ideas. Some students excel at these new difficulties, while others can benefit through study at home.

Seventh grade is a year of highly visible progress in reading, writing, and language arts. They develop complex writing skills, constructively critique their own and other’s writing, and read with fluency, with focus on comprehension. Pre-Algebra is the first math course in middle school and link to geometry.

Eighth Grade

In eighth grade, students continue to practice many of the skills they learned in earlier grades, specifically paying attention to details like text evidence, language, and cross-text comparisons in different genres of text.

However, eighth graders push their analyses of texts further as they examine the details and writing structure and assess how those elements affect the text. In eighth grade, students are introduced to and focus on several new mathematical concepts in Algebra I, which is considered a high school credit for most schools in the United States.

Ninth Grade

Ninth graders immerse themselves in preparation for high school by practicing and strengthening skills they learned in earlier years, while also learning new and more complex skills.

Ninth grade is a year of transition, as students are expected to have mastered the ways and begin becoming more independent thinkers and workers, analyzing and explaining what they learn in both their writing and orally. At La Estancia School they take Algebra II and Geometry which is considered advanced math for the average ninth grader in schools around the world.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & SPORTS

Health is an integral component of a balanced physical educational program. Every year students are discreetly weighed in order to get their BMI (Body Mass Index). They also take the test of Navette or test of Leger 20 meters used to study the cardiorespiratory component, this test is adapted for each grade level and for female and male students.

The focus is on engaging students to make informed decisions about their health and well-being, also this information is key for individuals to see how far they’ve come. Some students are more prone to sports and L.E.S. has a solid after school program that includes volleyball, soccer and basketball.

MUSIC EDUCATION

The music program offers experiences that encourages students to become engaged with their school environment, develop a positive attitude, and make healthy choices. Our music program addresses multiple learning styles, meets individual needs, and engages students in meaningful activities.

Middle school students develop a sense of self-esteem, belonging, and purpose because they belong to something bigger than themselves, something La Estancia School is very proud of. The structure of music and the significance of the community in its performance can provide students with a sense of individual importance in relation to the ensemble as a whole.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT

STUCO may be considered the Federal Government that provides for the good of all their citizens, (student body) considering the needs of the minorities and the wishes of the majority. The Grades (7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grade) would be considered states in the Federal System and they take care of their people only, but contribute constantly to the Federal System.

Interact La Estancia School Tegucigalpa Sur, Emineo Honor Society, the music program benefit concerts to FUNDANIQUEM por la vida del niño quemado, and Doña Patty’s annual Toy Collection may be considered as “Special Interest Groups” that provide solely for a limited population yet as a charity.
